Questions and answers:
Before you came to Brookes what did you study and where?
BTEC National Diploma in Construction; Southampton City College
What made you choose Brookes as a place to study?
The size and reputation of the department, the standard of the university and the location of the university in relation to my hometown were the main factors for me choosing Brookes.
What do you think of the course now that you're here?
I am glad that the course is splitting into two specific construction routes, PM and QS, rather than a general course that is unable to cover every subject in sufficient depth.
What do you think of the industrial placement aspect of your course?
I think the opportunity for an Industrial Placement is great and should be compulsory for all courses. It provides an insight into your proposed industry, allowing you a taster to decide upon your preferred route before landing a full time job as a graduate and having the possibility of regret in the near future.
What are your plans for when you've completed your course, for work or further study?
Once graduating, I plan to continue with my APC in order to pass and become chartered by the RICS. Then continue my career as a PQS/QS. I would like to study a Masters degree, but chartered accreditation is my instant priority.
What are the best bits of studying at Brookes?
The university facilities and the quality of the information available to students both by the university itself and their partners.
What advice do you have for others?
Make as much effort to secure an industrial placement as soon as possible within the first and second years of study, as practical 'on the job' experience is the most beneficial you can get.
